Week Two Writing Prompt
The topic that I am going to research this semester is Special Needs. I have chosen to research special needs because that is what I am going to do for a career, a special education teacher. One of my main topics will be different types of special needs. I want to research all different kinds of handicaps and how to reconize them. I have chosen this as one of my 3 main topics because I feel that before I can truely help anyone with a disability, I need to understand that disability. That will bring me to my second main topic, helping those with disabilities. I want to write about how to help disabled people because I think that is very important. It doesn't do anybody any good to be able to specify what disability a person may have if they don't also know how to help this person. My third main topic will be equal treatment of people with special needs. I want to know more about how schools and businesses maintain equal treatment and rights to handicaped people. I want to acknowledge the steps that are taken to maintain equality and what needs to be changed because it is not fair.

The general topic i a good one; however, although I am not sure about this right now, it may be too difficult to try to deal with all three of these areas. For example, how to help children with special needs can easily genearte a ton of research. Are you an education major? Or pschology? You might try focusing on the challenges of educating children with disabilities. Or, the legal rights of the disabled and what else needs to be done? DOing some research can help you narrow the field.
